When is the Best Time of Year to Pour Concrete?

We often think that the best time of year to get things done is in the spring. The shock of the costly holidays is over with, tax returns are truly returning, and we may have money to burn. Plus, in certain parts of the country, people must wait until spring due to snow and months of freezing weather. While this is the case in many states, North Texas is a bit different—especially when it comes to concrete work.

Through the years, I have seen many interesting weather patterns here in Texas. For the most part, any time of the year is just fine to start and finish your concrete project. Spring has mostly perfect weather with our warm daytime temperatures, but caution must be taken with our spring storms. On any given day, we can have hard rain that will wash out new concrete if your crew isn't careful!

At McFall Masonry, we watch the weather constantly and are rarely surprised by the many real-time types of radar we can see. If rain is on its way, our concrete contractors will cancel concrete projects. There are times that the customer may feel that too much caution is being taken, likely because they are anxious about getting the project completed. While we fully understand this, we make sure to take the necessary precautions as our work could be damaged by the rain just hours later.

Pouring Concrete in the Hot Texas Summer Months

Summers here in Texas get very hot. While we can pour concrete any time of the day when it's hot, caution must still be taken. Wet ground is important to any concrete job performed in major heat.

We use a retarder in the concrete that slows the drying process, then we spray concrete cure when completed to slow the concrete surface's drying, and of course, use plenty of manpower. We do not take chances at McFall Masonry, and we will not pour your concrete until we have all the necessary precautions in place.

Pouring Concrete in Cold Weather (Avoid Freezing Temperatures!)

At McFall Masonry, we will not pour concrete in freezing weather, and we will not pour your concrete if it appears the concrete will not be dry before it freezes.

If water remains inside the concrete when it freezes for several hours, the water will freeze and eventually cause a weakness in the concrete causing the surface to begin flaking off. This issue usually takes a couple of years to turn up on your concrete. With that being said, we can certainly still prepare your concrete for pouring during any freezing weather and wait for a more ideal temperature for pouring. Concrete placement in cold weather can be done successfully with the proper planning.

From inclement weather conditions to extreme temperatures, it's extremely important to avoid pouring concrete during these times. The point is that here in North Texas, our top concrete contractors can begin and finish your concrete project almost any time of year. However, we will take all precautions for whichever season we are dealing with for a successful pour!

Benefits of Choosing Concrete

  • Easy to maintain
