Every year seems to bring a lot of hope, I suppose that’s where New Year’s resolutions come from. A new year almost always feels great.
When it comes to home improvement of all types, I find most people begin making plans at the very start of the year. Many start there project immediately, many wait, plan, save, then move on there project in the spring. Many people anticipate healthy sized tax returns and use that for there project, many simply place the cost on a credit card and pay it off through time.
Some things to remember. If you want a backyard project completed by that graduation party you’re having, plan and schedule with a contractor at least 6 weeks in advance or it may not get done. Usually by late February we’re booked for a couple of months already. No matter the reason. For a project in your backyard such as a patio cover, an outdoor kitchen, a nice decorative patio, a fire pit, the list goes on and on, if you have an anticipated completion date, it’s wise to get estimates and choose a contractor early on. McFall Masonry & Construction has 3 experienced crews, although always booked, we can usually get to you fairly soon. Sometimes we combine those crews for larger projects. Be aware of this, if a contractor tells you it’ll be a bit before they can start, they’re probably a reputable contractor.
Please remember that there’s so much more then just choosing someone to do your project. Do they have a website? If not, why not? Do they have liability insurance? If not, why not? Accidents can happen, McFall Masonry & Construction has carried a one million dollar policy for decades, we’ve never needed it, but it’s there just in case. Does the ‘one man does it all’ warranty his or her workmanship, very important, will they come back to check on an issue you have?
Will the contractor do your project correctly? Ask questions! I noticed someone posting a partial retaining wall being built at a home on social media, it was quite obvious that the retaining wall was simply being placed 6” below the ground, on the ground, no concrete foundation. A sure foundation is always the best way to go. Anything sitting on the ground that is being built needs a sure foundation, even a simple fence post. So, ask questions, after all, it’s your money.
This year coming is 2025, all indications are that its going to be a very busy year, we have been very busy during December and through the holidays, this is one indication of a busy year coming, another indication is that here in North Texas the growth is phenomenal, people just keep moving here weekly, most from out of state.
Please understand this, there is no such thing as a contractors license here in Texas, I know that most people coming from out of state may think that’s crazy, but it’s true.
There is no one watching over the person you hire, so make sure they have plenty of experience, maybe a hundred or more of real google reviews, they have established experienced crews. My lead man has been with me for 27 years, this makes a different. So be prepared. Happy New Year from McFall Masonry & Construction
